On The Campus: The University of Virginia {Central Virginia Photographer}
When I was asked to take photos for the cover of the newspaper’s Welcome magazine I immediately thought of the Rotunda on The Grounds of The University of Virginia. I dragged myself awake at 4:30 a.m. on a Saturday to try to snap sunrise photos over the historical building on The Lawn. And my wonderful husband came, too, surprisingly to me! We had a wonderful time actually and I fell in love with the photos! But the newspaper decided to go a different way. You can see those results on Aug. 26, 2012, in The Daily Progress!
On July 29, 2012, I met up with fellow members of Charlottesville Photography Initiative to take long exposure photos on The Lawn at 7:30 p.m. This is a great time of year because there are much fewer students on Grounds. However, as you can see from the May 2012 photos of The Rotunda above, there is construction happening on campus. And at the moment The Lawn is torn up in a way I’ve never seen before. So, we took photos of the other buildings, including The Chapel, which has a Tiffany window within. With The Chapel photos we used a fun lighting technique (they were taken close to 10 p.m.). I still struggle with long exposure, but I have a feeling I will practice a lot more when I purchase a better tripod!
They are beautiful.
