Alexis, Softballer, Class of 2018 {Virginia Teen Photography}
Earlier this summer I put out a model call for someone under 16 and Alexis’ mother answered the call. I’ve known Alexis since we moved here in 1995 and she was in kindergarten with my son & on his T-ball team. I was so thrilled at the prospect of doing a softball session with Alexis. Do not let her petite size & cutie-pie face fool you…this is one tough young lady! I played softball for more than 20 seasons in my life so I speak from authority when I say catching is a tough job and Alexis is pretty amazing at it.
This was my first softball shoot, and my love of doing sporting shoots meant I jumped at the chance!!! And it gave me a chance to practice a similar sport for an upcoming baseball senior portrait session!
Look around your house, are most of your photos from when your children were under 10? I hear from the parents of the high school seniors I photograph that it has been years since they had a professional photo of the children or the family as a whole (except for the not-inspired school photos). Yes, I’m biased because I am a photographer, but even before I opened my business I had numerous photo session for my children who are now 16 & 14. Why wait until your children are high school seniors to have fabulous photos taken for them? I’m starting to photograph more and more teenagers for different things, but in a slightly toned-down version of the senior experience! I still want them to say something about your child’s personality, but maybe there aren’t dozens of outfit changes or more than one location, maybe there isn’t professional hair & makeup, perhaps it’s not styled by a professional, but it’s still more than many of us do for the big events in our children’s lives: start of middle school, bar or bat mitzvahs, turning 13, starting high school, quinceaneras, sweet 16. Whatever the occasion we can come up with something fun for your child’s session!
