A Cousins Photoshoot {Virginia Teen Photography}
It’s not exactly uncommon for families to get together over Thanksgiving break and hang out but this was one of the first times in years I had my niece visit from North Carolina and I wanted to be sure we did something fun and special. She just started high school this year and when they were little Juliet, my daughter, and Josie, my niece, were super close! We only lived a mile from each other. I miss those days sometimes. Pretty soon they’ll both be grown and at college so I knew this might be the last time in a long while I’d be able to do a fun photoshoot with them. It was FREEZING but they both braved the cold wonderfully–and I kept it pretty short with breaks in the car!–and I love the images, especially the closeup of them together. I had to buy a standout of that one for my living room!
I know custom photography is often expensive, but a fun mini photoshoot to celebrate a milestone in their lives, such as turning 13 or 16, or starting high school, or just for fun, can be quite reasonable. I often hear from the parents of the high school seniors I photograph that it has been years since they had a professional photo of the children or the family as a whole (except for the not-inspired school photos). Yes, I’m biased because I am a photographer, but even before I opened my business I had numerous photo session for my children who are now 16 & 14. Why wait until your children are high school seniors to have fabulous photos taken for them? I’m starting to photograph more and more teenagers for different things, but in a slightly toned-down version of the senior experience! I still want them to say something about your child’s personality, but maybe there aren’t dozens of outfit changes or more than one location, maybe there isn’t professional hair & makeup, perhaps it’s not styled by a professional, but it’s still more than many of us do for the big events in our children’s lives: start of middle school, bar or bat mitzvahs, turning 13, starting high school, quinceaneras, sweet 16. Whatever the occasion we can come up with something fun for your child’s session!
